  Glad that you found this to be helpful. The third state that you’re referring to is the ‘active’ state…
  a:active
  For positioning try top, center, and bottom for the three states.
  If you run into problems with that you can alternately specify the background position with the top and left placement instead as shown below…
  a:active { background-position: [...]

  Thanks for the compliment John.  That was done about two years ago, looking at the codes now makes me want to clean things up lol.
